Az utilizes a portable breathalyzer that combines BrAC, facial recognition, and GPS location and transmits that information to a central server in real-time. The portable breathalyzer uses the smartphone of the Participant, with the app connected through Bluetooth to the phone. When the test is submitted, the app assembles the test result from the portable breathalyzer with the smartphone photo and GPS location, and sends it to the server. As the next generation in breath alcohol monitoring for criminal justice, this device goes beyond the current technology by solving existing industry weaknesses and adding features empowered by smartphone technology

The smartphone monitoring app was created to reduce the stigma of outdated technology for monitoring offenders and provide a more modem avenue to help them get more positive reinforcement for the duration of the monitoring process. By replacing old technology with modern technology the offenders already own and use everyday we are changing the offenders view and their willingness to comply with monitoring requirements. All accomplishes this by allowing the offender to maintain a more structured "normal" life with minimal testing/check-in disruption. It provides a resource that they carry with them all the time to notify them of tests, court dates, therapy or class appointments as well as provide positive reinforcement that they are being compliant. The agency also has the ability to more closely evaluate an offender's progress and make adjustments as needed
